About us

What is this project about?

Egypt Beyond COVID-19 is a project, funded by Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), Egypt. The project is a Futures Study in three sectors: Industry, Information Technology, Transportation and Supply Chains

Why are these sectors selected?

The targeted sectors in this study are among the most affected sectors by the emerging crisis of the Corona virus. The transportation sector is severely affected with its different branches, especially the aviation sector, after stopping airline flights between countries to prevent cross-infection between severely infected countries and other countries. The rest of the transportation sectors were affected due to the stopping of some industries on the world level and the general slowdown in the global economy, which led to the impact of the freight transport sector as well as the supply sector. The industrial sector has also been affected by the supply sector, especially the raw materials needed for manufacturing, as well as the possibility of employment being affected due to the possibility of infection.
The information technology sector was also one of the most affected sectors by the increase in pressures on the uses of information technology in the distance education sector as an alternative to traditional education as well as the increase in pressure on electronic commerce and reducing the use of cache and the dependence of the financial and banking sector and individuals on transfers and electronic payment . Many sectors have been affected, but these influences have created new opportunities for these sectors that must be exploited to form a better future for these sectors capable of facing such sudden and rare occurrences of profound impact.

Methodology

The methodology of the study depends on implementing certain activities in a set of related stages that aim to reach the full picture of the future of the selected sectors and study the world after the COVID-19 epidemic. The methodology consists of three stages:
The first stage: studying the current situation
The second stage: identifying the direct and indirect effects and consequences of the Corona pandemic on the selected sectors
The third stage: building the different scenarios for the sectors and studying the performance of the systems in Egypt to interact with these scenarios

How will the Current Status be studied?

Studying the current situation of the targeted sectors is conducted  in light of the current conditions and events taking into account internal influences at the national level and external influences at the global level. This will be conducted using the PEST (Political, Economic, Social and Technological) Analysis, with the possibility to extend to the legal and environmental situation using the PESTLE Analysis technique. SWOT Analysis can also be used to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and expected threats to the system in Egypt are a result of the circumstances of the new Corona epidemic outbreak.
The process of surveying and gathering information will be done by a group of experts in different sectors who will also identify opportunities and threats expected in addition to using them to judge the observations and suggestions received from other experts as a method of checking and verifying data and suggestions that are collected. The Internet, scientific databases, papers and reports from experts will also be used as sources for collecting information and data.

Who are the stakeholders of this project?

A team of experts will be formed for each sector from members of the specialized councils of the Academy of Scientific Research in addition to academic and executive experts in the various fields under study, and the Information and Decision Support Center - Crisis Management Sector - Future Studies Unit - Experts and executives from Government agencies to follow up on findings and recommendations, as well as participating in the process of verifying the accuracy of future scenarios that have been developed.
